Sources: Swansea agree to sign Man United rising star Laird

Swansea City have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United left-back Ethan Laird on a season-long loan, Football Insider has learned.

New Swansea boss Russell Martin had Laird on at MK Dons last season.

An industry source has told Football Insider he is now set to become Martin’s second signing as Swansea boss after a breakthrough in talks.

Laird provided four assists in 25 games for the Dons after moving on loan from United in January.

The 20-year-old is highly-rated at Old Trafford and has already played twice for Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team.

Both appearances, including one start, came in the Europa League group stages last season.

After gaining experience in League One, Manchester United want him to test himself at a higher level.

Football Insider revealed on 27 July the Swans had made an approach to MK Dons over Martin.

He was then confirmed as the Welsh outfit’s new boss at the beginning of August.

This site revealed earlier today (6 August) that he was set to make Jamie Paterson his first signing.

Swansea then formally announced the arrival of the versatile attacker hours later.

Martin will be hoping to take the Swans one step further than Steve Cooper did.

They reached the Championship play-off final last term but were beaten by Brentford and have lost a number of key players since, including goalkeeper Freddie Woodman and defender Marc Guehi.

City begin their league campaign with a trip to Blackburn Rovers tomorrow (7 August).
