Sources: Swindon Town reject Hibernian bid for Jonny Williams

Swindon Town have rejected a bid from Hibernian for midfielder Jonny Williams, sources have told Football Insider.

Hibs boss Lee Johnson is keen to bring the Wales international to Easter Road by the 11pm deadline.

Williams, 29, is out of contract at Swindon in the summer and the League Two club are keen to keep hold of him.

The midfielder has made 24 appearances for Swindon across all competitions this season and has scored seven goals and provided one assist during those outings.

Williams has been capped 33 times by Wales and was included in their squad for the World Cup in December.

The playmaker began his career at Premier League side Crystal Palace and had loan spells at Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest, MK Dons and Sunderland before leaving Selhurst Park in 2019.

Williams has been a consisted member of the Swindon team since his arrival two seasons ago.

As quoted by the Scotsman (30 January), speaking about his contract situation Williams said that he has enjoyed his time with Swindon and although his contract is up in the summer, he would be “love” to extend his stay with the club.

Hibs are currently fifth in the Scottish Premiership and are looking to bolster their squad before the window closes and push up the table in the latter half of the season.

The Edinburgh club have previously looked to Swindon for additions to the squad, signing Harry McKirdy on deadline day last summer and will be hoping to add Williams to their ranks.

In other news, according to sources, Tottenham star Malachi Fagan-Walcott in advanced talks to join Swindon Town.
