Sources: Takehiro Tomiyasu agrees Arsenal deal after breakthrough in talks

Takehiro Tomiyasu has agreed to a new contract with Arsenal, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that after a breakthrough in talks, the Japan international is expected to pen fresh terms at the London giants.

A deal is all but completed bar confirmation and an announcement from the Gunners is expected soon.

The defender currently earns a reported £55,000-a-week at the Emirates, but well-placed sources have told Football Insider that he is set for a major increase to his salary.

He moved to Arsenal from Serie A side Bologna in the summer of 2021 for a reported £15.5million, but his impressive performances under Mikel Arteta have motivated the club to tie him down to a new deal.

Tomiyasu has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, bagging one goal and three assists.

The 25-year-old has not been a regular starter since his arrival, but it is believed he is happy to stay in north London and sees his future at Arsenal despite his backup role.

His versatility has allowed him to play across the backline this season – a key reason why Arteta is eager to keep him at the club.

Tomiyasu has been away at the Asian Cup with Japan but is expected back at Arsenal soon after his nation was eliminated by Iran in the quarter-finals.
