Sources: Three giants in race to sign Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez as new price tag revealed

Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus are among the top clubs interested in signing World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez this summer with Aston Villa ready to listen to offers, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that a bid worth upwards of £40million would be enough to prise the 30-year-old away from Villa Park.

Martinez will have no shortage of suitors at home and abroad following his heroics for Argentina in Qatar.

Aston Villa do not need to make a big-money sale in order to make a number of additions this summer, but the shot-stopper is viewed as one of the club’s most saleable assets.

Sources told this site on Friday (17 February) that manager Unai Emery would be open to adding Martinez’s potential fee to Villa’s summer transfer war chest as he looks to strengthen the squad.

The 30-year-old has gone public with his desire to compete at the highest level and win more silverware following his World Cup triumph with Argentina in Qatar last year.

However, Martinez – who has been at Villa Park since September 2020 – has more than four years left to run on his contract.

His reported £120,000-a-week wage makes him one of the highest earners at the club.

Football Insider revealed in December 2022 that Man United have a “concrete” interest in signing Martinez this summer as they look to replace long-serving shot-stopper David de Gea.

Aston Villa

He has been a mainstay for Aston Villa when available this season, making 29 starts across all competitions – and keeping five clean sheets.

The experienced star scored an unfortunate own goal in the 4-2 loss against former side Arsenal on Saturday (18 February).
