Sources: Tomiyasu passes Arsenal medical after officials jet out to agree terms following twist today

Takehiro Tomiyasu has passed his Arsenal medical and will sign a four-year contract imminently, Football Insider understands.

The London giants made a late move for the Bologna defender on deadline day to help fill the void left by Hector Bellerin’s departure to Real Betis.

An Arsenal source told Football Insider the club agreed a £19.8million fee earlier today for the former Tottenham target and officials flew out to Italy to conduct the medical and sort out personal terms.

The versatile defender will take Bellerin’s place among the Gunners’ squad.

Barring any late hitches, the Spanish full-back will join Real Betis on loan after falling out of favour under Mikel Arteta.

Tomiyasu can play at right-back or at the heart of the defence.

As revealed by Football Insider at the start of August, Tottenham were keen on signing Tomiyasu.

However, the Lilywhites chose to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta instead.

Spurs decision opened the door for Arsenal to make a late move before the 11pm deadline.

Key Arsenal figures jetted out to Italy to negotiate terms of a transfer and conduct the necessary medical tests.

The Japan international has agreed a four-year contract with the north Londoners.

Tomiyasu has established himself as one of the brightest defenders in Serie A since joining Bologna in 2019.

He has made 61 top-flight appearances in Italy and has 23 caps under his belt for Japan.

Arsenal

The defender is set to become Arsenal’s sixth signing of the summer.

Arteta has already added Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares to his ranks.
