Sources: Tottenham expected to sack Stellini as crisis talks held today

Tottenham will hold crisis talks on Monday (24 April) over sacking interim boss Cristian Stellini and appointing a new manager for the rest of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

Sunday’s (23 April) humiliating 6-1 defeat away at Newcastle has left Stellini’s job hanging by a thread.

The Italian chose to line up with a four-man defence before reverting to a five-man rearguard with Spurs trailing 5-0 inside 21 minutes.

It is now likely that Stellini will be dismissed just under a month after he took over from sacked boss Antonio Conte.

He has taken charge of four games at Spurs to date, winning just one – a 2-1 victory over Brighton on 8 April.

But back-to-back losses against Newcastle and relegation-threatened Bournemouth have left Tottenham’s hopes of Champions League qualification seriously damaged.

The Lilywhites sit fifth in the Premier League – six points adrift of fourth-place Man United, having played two more games than the Red Devils.

Stellini arrived at the club with Conte in November 2021 and was considered suitable to take over from the former Chelsea boss after standing in for him during his health problems in February.

Ryan Mason currently serves as the Italian’s assistant boss and has also previously taken the hot seat at Spurs after Jose Mourinho’s sacking in 2021.

The Londoners will continue searching for a long-term successor to Conte and Stellini ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (23 April) that Chelsea have decided not to appoint Tottenham target Julian Nagelsmann due to fears over his ability to handle big players.

Vincent Kompany has also been widely linked with the vacancies at Stamford Bridge and Spurs, but sources have told this site (18 April) that the Belgian is not expected to quit Burnley this summer despite the “flattering” interest.

Tottenham face top-four rivals Man United in their next game on Thursday (27 April).

In other news, Tottenham agree to sign defender starlet – he arrives at Hotspur Way.
