Sources: Tottenham plot January move for £67.5m star De Ligt as bargain deal on the cards
Tottenham have set their sights on signing Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt in January, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Holland defender, 22, is on the radar of recruitment chief Fabio Paratici as he looks to bolster the back line in the upcoming window.
A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Paratici has said to club chiefs he believes a deal can be done for De Ligt.
The priority of the Londoners’ managing director and new manager Antonio Conte is to sign at least one top-class centre-back in January.
Football Insider revealed Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij is also a top target and he has told friends he is interested in a potential move to Spurs.
De Ligt has not been an unqualified success at Juventus, where Paratici was in charge of transfers when he joined from Ajax in the summer of 2019 for an initial fee of £67.5million.

That made him the most expensive defender signing in Serie A history and came amid a Europe-wide transfer battle that also included the likes of Man United and Barcelona.
De Ligt has made 12 appearances for Juve this season but been in the starting XI for only seven of their 12 Serie A matches.
The preferred centre-back partnership has often been skipper Giorgio Chiellini and his fellow Euro 2020 hero Leonardo Bonucci.
Like De Vrij, De Ligt is a star of the Holland national team that secured qualification for the World Cup earlier this week.
De Vrij partnered Virgil van Dijk in central defence in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Montenegro but the Inter Milan man was injured for Tuesday’s clash against Norway.
De Ligt stepped into the starting XI alongside Van Dijk as Holland kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win that guaranteed a place in next year’s World Cup.
