Sources: Tottenham star Eric Dier opens talks over three-year deal

Tottenham have opened talks with defender Eric Dier over a new contract extension, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old’s current deal runs until 2024 and Spurs are working on a two-year extension following Dier’s impressive performances this season.

The England international is believed to be very happy at Tottenham and the early stages of negotiations have been positive between all parties.

Dier has been a key part of Tottenham’s project this season, and his new contract is viewed as a reward for his good performances.

Dier has made 30 appearances already for Spurs this season, playing in every Champions League game so far and missing just one Premier League clash against Aston Villa in January.

He has scored two goals across all competitions and has been a first-choice centre-back for Antonio Conte.

Dier is currently experiencing his ninth season in north London after joining Spurs from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014 for £4million.

He made his senior breakthrough in Portugal with Sporting but then moved to Tottenham where he has made a total of 349 appearances, scoring 13 goals and assisting a further 11.

After making an immediate impact at Tottenham, Dier was called up to the England setup in 2015 and handed his debut by then-manager Roy Hodgson.

Dier has remained a key part of England’s side ever since, making 49 caps while playing part in Euro 2016 as well as the 2018 and 2022 World Cup campaigns.
