Sources: Tottenham’s chances of finalising immediate Mauricio Pochettino appointment revealed

Tottenham have “no chance” of appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager before the upcoming World Cup, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Spurs boss has his full focus on leading the USA in their home tournament, and a deal will not be possible until after they are eliminated, despite the pressure increasing on Thomas Frank.

Football Insider revealed last week that Tottenham could appoint an interim manager if they decide to sack Frank, and sources now say that they may go down that route with a view to then trying to tempt Pochettino.

The 53-year-old “ticks a lot of boxes” for the Tottenham hierarchy, and there is a feeling on his part that he has unfinished business in North London.

The Lilywhites want somebody who is proven in the Premier League, and Pochettino’s credentials are appealing to them at this stage.

Mauricio Pochettino’s contract with the USA

Football Insider recently revealed that Pochettino is “definitely” on Tottenham’s shortlist when it comes to selecting their new boss, but they will have to be patient if they want to make his return a reality.

The former Southampton chief took the reins of the American national team in September 2024, and penned a contract that is set to keep him in the job until after this summer’s World Cup.

The USA’s international setup wanted a big name to lead the team into their home tournament, and that hasn’t changed as the finals begin to approach on the horizon.

However, once that contract has expired, Tottenham will have the chance to land him without paying compensation.

Pochettino led them to their first ever Champions League final in 2018-19, and recorded their highest Premier League finish in a generation, while also knowing the club inside out.

His brief stint at Chelsea has done little to damage his reputation at Spurs, and he may even get the chance to enhance it further next season.

Fabian Hurzeler is on Tottenham’s radar

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is a top target on Tottenham’s radar as the pressure continues to mount on Frank.

The Spurs hierarchy are understood to have been impressed by the 32-year-old’s extensive experience at the top level despite his young age.

Hurzeler led Brighton to eighth in his first campaign as a Premier League manager last term, and they are on course for a comfortable mid-table finish once again this time out.

The German is under contract on the South Coast until the summer of 2027, but Tottenham may try and tempt him away in the coming months.
