Sources: Tottenham’s January striker signing plan revealed

Tottenham will struggle to sign a striker in the January transfer window and may be forced to stick with their current options, sources have told Football Insider.

Thomas Frank has a lack of options up front as it stands due to injury and poor form, which is badly hindering his side.

Dominic Solanke underwent surgery to fix an ankle issue and is now out for an extended period, leaving Spurs without their first-choice centre-forward.

Stand in striker Mathys Tel was criticised for his performance during Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa, with Richarlison failing to deliver in recent times as well.

Tottenham forced to stick with striking options

Sources say that in an ideal world, Tottenham would bring in a striker when the window reopens, but it is notoriously difficult to do business in January.

Therefore, the more likely scenario is that Frank will have to utilise his current squad, rather than relying on additions.

Tottenham did sign Randal Kolo Muani on loan in the summer, but the Frenchman has only managed 26 minutes of football so far this season.

Spurs will need one of Kolo Muani, Richarlison, and Tel to step up in Solanke’s absence, if they want to achieve their aim of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Tottenham faltering after impressive start

Frank’s reign as Tottenham manager began in impressive fashion, as his side won four of their first five games of the new season.

However, in recent weeks the performances have fallen away, with the results also taking a turn for the worse.

Tottenham lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on Sunday (19 October), meaning that they have now won just one of their last four Premier League matches.

Draws against Wolves and Brighton have seen shades of the former Spurs, where they would fail to capitalise on games against the supposedly weaker sides in the division.

Frank will hope that the poor run of form is just a blip, and that the North London side can get back on track against Monaco in the Europa League.
