Sources: Tranmere make move to sign Rangers star Alex Lowry
Tranmere Rovers have registered their interest in signing Rangers star Alex Lowry on loan for the 2023-24 campaign, sources have told Football Insider.
The Glasgow giants snubbed loan offers for the 20-year-old in January – with Football Insider revealing in February that Kilmarnock and Dutch side FC Twente approached the Gers about a temporary move.
But they could now offload Lowry as he prepares to be on the fringes of the Rangers side once again in the new campaign.
Tranmere are in the market for attacking players on loan for the season.
The attacking midfielder made just seven senior appearances across all competitions last season, playing a total of 99 minutes of action.
He was prolific for the Gers’ B side – notching 10 goals and one assist across 11 appearances for the Highland League outfit.
But bigger things were expected of Lowry after he broke through into the senior squad in January 2022, making his debut in Scottish Cup action against Stirling Albion.
The youngster could now head out on loan for the first time in an attempt to make an impression on senior boss Michael Beale.
Lowry’s Rangers contract is set to expire in June 2025.
The Glasgow giants have already completed seven signings so far this summer ahead of the Scottish Premiership’s kick-off on 5 August, pushing Lowry further out of the picture.

Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell, Jack Butland, Leon Balogun and Abdullah Sima have all joined up at Ibrox.
Tranmere will play League Two football again next season after finishing 12th in the 2022-23 campaign.
