Sources: Update on West Ham sacking David Moyes after overnight development
David Moyes is expected to be sacked by West Ham if they lose to Fulham on Saturday (8 April), sources have told Football Insider.
The Scot, 59, is under huge pressure after the midweek thrashing by Newcastle United and club chiefs are demanding an instant turnaround.
It is believed that Moyes’ support in the David Sullivan-led boardroom is dwindling and the club have been sounding out alternatives.
Should the Irons lose again in Saturday’s London derby, Moyes‘ second spell at the club is set to come to an end.
He has narrowly avoided the sack on multiple occasions in recent months but has managed to pull out a few results when the axe was close, while the board have also struggled to bring in a manager they regard as an upgrade capable of keeping the club in the Premier League.
More internal discussions have been held in the last 24 hours and on Thursday night (6 April) about a replacement for Moyes.
Rafael Benitez has strong boardroom support as a “firefighter” capable of galvanising the team, but he wants a long-term contract and not a deal running until the end of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino has proved out of reach, while Frank Lampard, another candidate, has just taken over as interim Chelsea manager.
Moyes, whose contract at the London Stadium expires in June 2024, has led his side to just seven wins from 28 Premier League games this season.
The Irons beat bottom club Southampton on Sunday (2 April) but a 5-1 reverse at the hands of Newcastle on Wednesday (5 April) leaves them outside the drop zone only on goal difference.

A lasting reminder of Moyes’ success at the club still exists, however, with West Ham set to take on Gent in the quarter-final of the Europa Conference League on Thursday next week (13 April).
But first, the Scot must navigate what has become a must-win game against Fulham in order to save his job.
