Sources: Vicente Guaita ready to quit Crystal Palace

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita is ready to quit Crystal Palace this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 36-year-old was the number one in the first part of the 2022-23 campaign but was usurped by Sam Johnstone in the final stages of the season.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Johnstone is set to remain first choice at Selhurst Park with the new season just two weeks away.

It is believed Guaita has no intention of being second choice and is now exploring the possibility of exiting the club in the final month of the transfer window.

The veteran shot-stopper has potential suitors in Spain – where he has already played for Valencia, Getafe and Huelva.

Palace will move for another backup keeper if Guaita finalises an exit – instead of promoting young Joe Whitworth to a more prominent role.

The 36-year-old has just under 12 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

He made 28 appearances across all competitions last season, keeping six clean sheets and conceding 36 goals.

Guaita joined Palace from Getafe in 2018 on a free transfer and has made 154 total appearances for the London club.

Meanwhile, Johnstone joined the Eagles as the initial second choice in 2022 – but is set to shoulder the responsibility for Roy Hodgson’s side in the new campaign.

If Guaita departs, he will join Wilfried Zaha, Jack Butland, Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur in leaving the club this summer.

Palace start the 2022-23 campaign with an away clash against newly-promoted Sheffield United on 12 August.
