Sources: West Ham board make David Moyes sack decision

The West Ham board are keeping faith with manager David Moyes despite Saturday’s (4 March) 4-0 loss away at Brighton, sources have told Football Insider.

Those with knowledge of Moyes’ situation have revealed that the 59-year-old is seen as the man to preserve the Hammers’ Premier League status – despite a “massive shock” at the Amex Stadium.

It is believed that there is currently no plan or strategy in place to replace the former Man United and Everton boss – or talks taking place with other managers.

This news comes despite a widespread feeling among West Ham supporters that Moyes’ second spell at the club should come to an end.

Sources have told Football Insider that a rethink of the current stance is possible if the club fall back into the relegation zone – with the club’s owners wary of being cut adrift in the fight for survival.

The chastening loss against Brighton came just a week after a 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium.

The Irons have won just two of 11 Premier League games since the mid-season World Cup break – though valuable points against Leeds, Newcastle and Chelsea have helped their cause.

West Ham sit 16th in the table – just one point outside the relegation zone and two points above bottom club Bournemouth.

The Hammers’ below-par 2022-23 campaign has come despite a reported transfer spend of almost £172million across both windows this term.

Moyes led the club to a seventh-place finish last season and also masterminded a run to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

West Ham are still involved in the Europa Conference League this term and face a two-legged last-16 tie against Cypriot side AEK Larnaca.

It is believed that owners David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky see the European fixtures as an opportunity to build confidence in a fragile squad.
