Sources: West Ham finally complete Said Benrahma deal after Fifa intervention

Said Benrahma’s move from West Ham to Lyon has been completed hours after the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Behrahma will join the French club on a permanent basis for a £15million fee after Fifa intervened to green-light the deal.

The Hammers made a mistake with the paperwork and it looked like the agreement was set to collapse amid finger pointing from Lyon officials.

However, Fifa have made an exception and green-lighted the deal because it is now expected to be a permanent move rather than a loan.

Football Insider revealed last month that Benrahma’s transfer saga was set to run until the end of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old attracted interest from several clubs, including Everton, but Lyon have won the race for his signature.

The Algeria international has fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium this season with summer arrival Mohammed Kudus taking his spot in David Moyes’ starting lineup.

Benrahma has made 22 appearances across all competitions but has struggled for minutes in the Premier League with just 615 in the 2023-24 season.

West Ham

The Hammers experienced a fairly quiet winter transfer window with a loan move for Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips their only new arrival.

The Londoners instead used the window to thin Moyes’ squad with Benrahma and Pablo Fornals leaving on a permanent basis while Thilo Kehrer also left on loan.
