Sources: West Ham now willing to sell Nayef Aguerd in ‘surprise’ January deal

West Ham are willing to part ways with defender Nayef Aguerd in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hammers are open to offers for the 27-year-old centre-back just 18 months after he joined the London club.

Sources have told Football Insider that it has come as a ‘surprise’ to staff at West Ham that Aguerd has been put up for sale given his importance in the squad this season.

West Ham

It is understood that West Ham are willing to let Aguerd leave but are not willing to make a loss on their investment with the club setting an asking price of £30million.

Aguerd has made 21 appearances across all competitions in 2023/24, playing a pivotal role in West Ham’s Premier League and Europa League campaigns.

The Moroccan international has scored twice for David Moyes’ side and had made 14 consecutive league starts before missing the match against Manchester United on Saturday (23 December).

Aguerd joined the Irons from Rennes in a £30million deal in the summer of 2022 and signed a five-year contract with the Londoners.

Saudi Arabian clubs have already shown interest in signing Aguerd in January, although many clubs in the Saudi Pro League are reaching the allowable limit of overseas players.

Should Aguerd complete a surprise departure in January, Moyes will be left with Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Angelo Ogbonna and Thilo Kehrer as the remaining first-team centre-backs.
