Sources: West Ham star Vladimir Coufal opens new deal talks

West Ham have opened initial talks over extending Vladimir Coufal’s stay at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The 31-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign – but the Irons have a 12-month option as part of that contract.

Coufal could even land a new deal at the London Stadium following his impressive start to the new season.

West Ham

The former Slavia Prague ace has turned his West Ham career around after falling behind Thilo Kehrer in the pecking order at times last term.

Coufal has played every minute of all four Premier League games this season with the Irons still unbeaten in the new campaign.

Football Insider revealed earlier this year (16 March) that he is on the radar at Bayer Leverkusen – but the right-back could instead now land a new deal at West Ham.

Coufal joined the Irons in October 2020 and became an instant hit at the London Stadium.

He has made 112 appearances for the club, notching 12 assists – and was a key part of their Europa Conference League win last season.

The 37-cap Czech Republic international cost David Moyes’ side a reported fee of just £5million.

Ben Johnson is another right-back on the books at the London Stadium but is yet to play a minute in the 2023-24 campaign.

Johnson’s contract is also due to expire at the end of this season.

West Ham

West Ham have picked up 10 points from their opening four Premier League games.

The Irons will be in Europa League group-stage action later this month and have been drawn with Olympiakos, Freiburg and Backa Topola.

In other news, West Ham star 27-year-old could join Saudi club this week.
