Sources: Wolves dismiss Sean Parrish after decade

Wolves have dismissed long-standing Under-21s coach Sean Parrish, sources have told Football Insider.

The Welshman, 51, has been told his 10-year spell at Molineux – spread across two spells – is over following a review by the club.

It is a decision that has raised eyebrows at Wolves, where Parrish has been a popular figure and key to the development of the club’s young stars.

He has been the assistant coach of the club’s Under-21s side since returning to the club in 2018 following a year as assistant manager at Telford United.

Parrish had previously spent five years at Wolves in his first spell, which included spells coaching the club’s Under-18s and Under-16s.

His exit comes as first-team manager Julen Lopetegui prepares to lead the club into next season after the strong possibility he could leave.

Lopetegui took over in November when Wolves were bottom of the Premier League table and guided them to safety.

However, the Spaniard’s future had been uncertain because of the club’s financial situation and his own misgivings as to whether he would be sufficiently backed in the summer transfer market.

The former Spain and Real Madrid manager, 56, had previously said it would be “difficult to compete” in the top flight without investment and mentioned Wolves’ financial fair play “problems”.

However, sporting director Matt Hobbs claimed last week that Lopetegui will stay as he conceded that “the project is different to what he thought it was” and “we had to allow him time to understand it and get his head around how to build a squad to be competitive in the Premier League”.
