Sources: Wolves expected to now complete Aaron Cresswell signing
Wolves are expected to complete the signing of West Ham left-back Aaron Cresswell in the final weeks of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (8 August) that the Irons are holding out for £4million for the 33-year-old – while the Midlands club have only submitted a £2.5million offer thus far.
Wolves are keen to up their bid and wrap up a deal regardless of the departure of Julen Lopetegui as manager.
The Spaniard was confirmed to have departed Molineux on Tuesday (8 August) after growing frustrated with the lack of transfer backing this summer.
Several key men like Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins and Raul Jimenez have departed – while only Matt Doherty has been added to last season’s squad so far.
Cresswell is being targeted by Wolves chiefs due to his extensive top-flight experience – with the Midlands club foreseeing a tricky campaign ahead.
Meanwhile, the former England international is being pushed towards the exit door at West Ham.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Irons are ready to target a new left-back regardless of whether Cresswell completes an exit this summer.
The former Ipswich star is under contract at the London Stadium until June 2024.
He made 38 appearances totalling more than 2800 minutes of football in the 2022-23 campaign, notching three assists.
Cresswell has racked up 331 appearances for West Ham since joining from Ipswich in 2014 – with 283 of those outings coming in the Premier League.
Wolves, who finished 13th in the 2022-23 campaign, start the new season against Man United next Monday (14 August).
Gary O’Neil is expected to succeed Lopetegui in the Molineux hot seat after his summer sacking at Bournemouth.
