Sources: Wolves lead Leeds United in Victor Gyokeres race

Wolves are “pushing the hardest” to seal a summer deal for Coventry City star Victor Gyokeres, sources have told Football Insider.

The Molineux club are trying to steal a march on their rivals – but a lot will depend on the Sky Blues’ bid for promotion to the Premier League this month.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (3 May) that Burnley are set to join the likes of Everton and Leeds United in the race to sign Gyokeres, 24.

Fulham and Crystal Palace are also among the sides monitoring his situation.

It is believed that Coventry are resigned to losing the striker if they cannot achieve promotion this season.

They currently occupy a play-off place and have their fate in their own hands heading into their final game against Middlesbrough next week (8 May).

It is believed that even if the Sky Blues don’t secure promotion they will still receive a good fee for Gyokeres – which could be in the region of £15-20million after add-ons.

The striker will have just one year remaining on his contract at the Midlands club at the end of June.

Wolves have struggled for goals despite an upturn in form since Julen Lopetegui’s arrival in November 2022.

Despite being 14th in the Premier League, the Molineux club are the lowest scorers in the top flight with 29 goals.

Wolves

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (2 May) that Wolves want to bolster their front line with a prolific goalscorer in the summer window.

Everton and Leeds United’s interest in Gyokeres is likely to hinge on them securing Premier League survival as the relegation run-in approaches.
