Southampton fans devastated by ‘cruel’ Ross Stewart injury blow

Southampton fans took to social media to express their frustration after striker Ross Stewart picked up yet another injury in their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

The 28-year-old was given the first Premier League start of his career at the Emirates but only lasted 21 minutes before having to come off with an injury.

Stewart pulled up with no one near him before falling to the ground and signaling to be brought off, a request manager Russell Martin promptly agreed to.

The striker joined Southampton from Sunderland for £8million back in January 2023 but has only managed to make nine appearances for the club.

He was out for the vast majority of last season with a serious muscle injury, missing 31 games across all competitions for the club.

Still, the South Coast club managed to secure a surprise win against the title contenders in what they hope will kickstart their dismal start to life back in the Premier League.

Cameron Archer, the man who came on to replace Stewart, after Raheem Sterling was dispossessed by Mateus Fernandes, finished the counterattack with a close-range effort.

In-form forward Kai Havertz then got the equaliser just three minutes later after Bukayo Saka won the ball in the centre of the park and fed the German through on goal.

Arsenal persisted and finally got their second in the 68th minute thanks to Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli’s second goal in two games.

Saka then rounded off the scoring with his first Premier League goal since their opening day 2-0 opening day win over Wolves to secure the three points for the title challengers.

Ross Stewart suffers yet another Southampton injury

Southampton remain winless since returning to the Premier League with one draw and six defeats from their opening seven games of the season.

After yet another loss, fans took to X, formally known as Twitter, to voice their frustrations about his latest injury.
