Southampton get extra £42m after confirmed news

Southampton managed to cut their wage bill by almost £42million last season following their relegation to the Championship, sources have told Football Insider.

The Saints have released their latest accounts for 2023-24, revealing their overall turnover fell from £145.5million in 2022-23 to £84.8million.

That was driven by a £51.1million drop in broadcast revenue, which fell from £108million to £56.9million last season as a result of the relegation.

Matchday income at St Mary’s slipped from £19.2million to £16.2million, while commercial revenue fell from £18.4million to £11.6million.

Southampton’s pre-tax losses fell from £87million to £17.3million as they looked to bring down their costs.

The Hampshire club spent £40.5million on new signings, while they made £145million on player sales, with the likes of Romeo Lavia, Tino Livramento, James Ward-Prowse and Nathan Tella all leaving for significant fees.

They also managed to cut their wage bill from £122.5million to £80.9million last season, marking a £41.6million saving on their salary expenditure.

Southampton target Liam Rosenior deal after Ivan Juric sacking

Southampton secured promotion back to the Premier League last season following their 1-0 victory over Leeds United in the play-off final.

However, the Saints are set for an instant return to the Championship after their relegation was confirmed following their 3-1 defeat against Tottenham on Sunday (6 April).

Ivan Juric has now been sacked as Southampton manager, less than four months after he replaced Russell Martin in the St Mary’s dugout.

The Croatian boss secured just two victories in his 16 games in charge, leaving the club seven points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Southampton are understood to be targeting Liam Rosenior to replace Juric following his promising season with Strasbourg, who sit fourth in Ligue 1.

The 19-year-old has also been closely watched by Manchester United, Liverpool and several Bundesliga sides after impressing for Southampton.

It is believed the Saints will struggle to keep hold of Dibling this summer following their relegation.

The winger has registered four goals and three assists in 32 appearances during his breakout season at St Mary’s.
