Expert: I’ve changed my mind about Tino Livramento as new Southampton footage emerges

Southampton star Tino Livramento could indeed come back stronger from his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Livramento, 19, is expected to be sidelined until at least the winter after he suffered an ACL injury in April.

But Southampton footage posted via Twitter last Sunday (27 June) shows the left-back has resumed some low-intensity gym and rehab work.

Dinnery revealed that he has changed his mind about players’ prospects post-ACL injury.

“I used to be a little bit sceptical of players who claim they will be back bigger, better and stronger than they ever were,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“After a significant setback like this, how could that possibly be true?

“However, just because you’re an elite sportsperson in a team, that doesn’t mean you live your life in an elite manner away from the field.

“Some players get there through pure talent, while others have to work meticulously.

“In terms of working with players and recovery, the players who have done all the right things and lived their life the right way, they are the ones that are the most difficult to get back to pre-injury levels.

“Players with whom there is scope to improve are the ones who have got by on talent and maybe didn’t feel they need to work as hard. With them, there are clearly identifiable areas that they need to address and work on.

“In that way, it is possible that players can actually come back better and stronger than they were before.”

In other news, West Ham could now sign Southampton star James Ward-Prowse amid £25million claim.
