Attacking duo among three Newcastle players fighting for their futures in Royal Antwerp clash

Karl Darlow

With fellow goalkeeper Rob Elliot confirmed to be missing from the trip to Spain, it leaves Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow as the only senior goalkeepers who have travelled, and gives the former Nottingham Forest man the chance to try and tie down a future with the Magpies.

The Slovakian international seems a shoe in to remain first choice between now and the end of the season, as well as securing a permanent move in the summer, and it leaves Darlow in a sticky situation.

Does he remain on Tyneside to fight for his place, or move on to try and tie down first team football?

If the former, then he has limited chances to prove himself in an actual match, and this could well be his final chance before the summer window opens, by which point it may well be too late.

He needs to take his opportunity with both hands, and show that despite being axed from the starting XI, he is still determined, and talented, enough to force his way back into the reckoning.
