Spence and Danso react to James Maddison’s one-word Tottenham message in Bilbao
James Maddison is clearly still keen to be involved for Tottenham in their Europa League final with Man United in Bilbao, even if he will not be able to get on the pitch.
This has been a dismal season for Spurs in the Premier League, where they currently lie 17th with just 38 points from 37 games.
There is still a chance to salvage something from the campaign, after Tottenham overcame Bodo/Glimt in the semi finals of the Europa League earlier this month to reach the final of the competition.
They will now face Premier League rivals Man United in the final in Bilbao on Wednesday (21 May), looking to not only end their long wait for a trophy, but also qualify for next season’s Champions League.

James Maddison travels to Bilbao in spite of injury
Sadly for Maddison, he will not be able to play a part for Spurs on the pitch as they look to end that trophy drought when they take on the Red Devils.
In the first leg of that semi final with Bodo/Glimt, Maddison picked up an injury that meant he will not play for Tottenham again this season.
Tottenham last five games | Result |
Bodo/Glimt (H) | Won 3-1 |
West Ham (A) | Drew 1-1 |
Bodo/Glimt (A) | Won 2-0 |
Crystal Palace (H) | Lost 2-0 |
Aston Villa (A) | Lost 2-0 |
Despite that, the 28-year-old will still be showing his support for his teammates in the final, after he took to Instagram on Tuesday (20 May) to post a series of pictures of himself watching his side train in Bilbao.
One of those images showed him joined by Radu Dragusin who is another Tottenham player currently absent due to injury.
In response, that backing was clearly appreciated by his teammates, with the likes of Djed Spence and Kevin Danso liking the post.
Tottenham must win Europa League final
Football Insider Verdict
Victory over Man United in the final may not be enough to prevent Tottenham from sacking manager Ange Postecoglou at the end of this season.
Even so, it is still absolutely vital for everyone connected with the club that they do all they can to claim this title.
With Man United in just as bad a shape as Spurs right now, this feels like an opportunity they have to take, and if they don’t there will be questions about when such a chance might come along again.
A club the size of Tottenham should not have had to wait as long as they have for a trophy, and the rewards of Champions League qualification that comes with it would be a major boost as well.
With that in mind, the extra little lift that having injured players such as Maddison and Dragusin in and around with the squad might bring may be rather useful.
