Stan Collymore reacts on Twitter as Celtic destroy Sunderland

Broadcaster Stan Collymore took to Twitter to praise Celtic after they destroyed Sunderland 5-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

A Callum McGregor hat-trick and goals from Jonny Hayes and Stuart Armstrong secured a notable triumph for Brendan Rodgers’ side against the Championship club.

It is also put them in good heart ahead of their pivotal Champions League qualification second leg against Rosenborg in Norway next Wednesday.

Celtic were held to a goalless draw in the first leg at Parkhead on Wednesday and need to score at the Lerkendal Stadium if they’ve to have any chance of making the play-offs of Europe’s premier competition.

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Collymore was encouraged by what he saw of Rodgers’ side in the friendly to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Stadium of Light.

“Fair to say the Hoops are ready to rock and roll while the Black Cats have a wake up call,” the broadcaster said on his personal Twitter account.

McGregor gave Rodgers a big nudge after he was omitted from the side that drew in the first leg against Rosenborg.

New signing Olivier Ntcham was preferred to the central midfielder, who showed he can provide goals in the possible absence for a second match of senior striker pair Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths.

In other Celtic transfer news, the Hoops are in advanced talks to sign a big name with a glittering track record in the Premier League.
