Stan Kroenke will be upset as Arsenal hit by new £43m blow – Kieran Maguire
Club chairman Stan Kroenke will be disappointed that Arsenal have missed out on a qualification spot to the Club World Cup next season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Fifa are “bending over backwards” to make their tournament as lucrative as possible for member clubs.
Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League this week after a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
It means the North London outfit will not qualify for the newly formatted Club World Cup in the United States next season.
Champions League defeat means Arsenal miss out on £43m chance
Reports suggest that each club competing in the tournament will earn a minimum of £43million (€50m) just through qualification.
Maguire explained that Kroenke will be upset at the missed opportunity but insisted that Arsenal are still heading in the right direction.
“FIFA seem to be bending over backwards to try to make their Club World Cup competition as lucrative as possible,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They are effectively trying to blind people by the check in order to try and give the competition some credibility.

“So from a pure bottom line point of view – and that’s exactly where Stan Kroenke comes from – it will be a disappointment.
“However, there is still progress being made and the club appears to be heading in the right direction.“
