Stars don’t want to join ‘Michael Beale’s Rangers’ amid new signing claim – pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed players don’t want to join Rangers because of Michael Beale.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said people want to play for managers they know, like previous Gers managers such as Steven Gerrard and Walter Smith.
As quoted by STV (19 April), Beale is looking to add four or five players to his squad ahead of the 2023-24 season.
But the Light Blues boss will be working without the help of former sporting director Ross Wilson who departed Ibrox for Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
Despite Wilson’s exit, Beale is confident in the club’s summer transfer plans and said that a lot of the work has already been done.
The manager said he has been leading the way and speaking to players “over the last couple of days”.
But McAvennie claimed it will be a struggle for Beale to attract potential signings to the club.
“He is going to get players but nobody knows him,” he told Football Insider.
“Steven Gerrard might not be the best manager in the world but he was a name. People want to go there and play for them.
“Walter Smith was a great name and people wanted to go and play for him. Michael Beale, no.“

Although he is keen to welcome in new players, Beale is set to lose several of his first teamers whose contracts expire in the summer.
Big names like Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent could depart Ibrox in the summer for nothing if the Gers fail to tie the pair down to new deals.
