Stefan Borson: Arsenal ready to offer Mikel Arteta ‘big fat contract’
Mikel Arteta is hoping to lead Arsenal to the Premier League title after narrowly missing out on the trophy in recent years.
Arteta has led the Gunners to second-place finishes in each of the past two campaigns.
However, Arsenal are well placed to win the Premier League this season as they currently sit four points clear of Manchester City in top spot.
Football Insider revealed on 14 November Arsenal plan to offer Arteta a new contract soon, with his current deal expiring in June 2027.
While the current focus is on the team’s progress in their pursuit of silverware, talks over the Spanish manager’s contract are expected to take place in due course.

Arsenal to include termination clauses in Mikel Arteta deal
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Arsenal are likely to offer Arteta a “big fat contract” before he enters the final year of his deal.
Arsenal backed Arteta heavily in the summer transfer window, ramping up the pressure on him this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “They will probably give him a big fat contract. They’re obviously going to be very supportive of him.
“I don’t think they are going to wait until the end of the season. Even if they didn’t win the league this season, what are they going to do? I can’t see them sacking him, so I think they’ll give him another contract.
“It won’t make much difference because the way the termination clauses work, managers very rarely get paid out to the end of the contract anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. There’s usually a payment that’s required if ever they’re terminated, a years’ salary, 18 months’ salary or whatever. You fix them out.”

Arteta has only won one major honour since returning to Arsenal as manager in 2019, having lifted the FA Cup trophy in 2020.
Arsenal told to agree Arteta deal
Borson insisted it’s unlikely anyone could do a better job than Arteta as Arsenal look to offer him a new contract.
“They are not going to let him get into the last year of his contract obviously anyway,” said Borson.
“It’s very hard to imagine that anyone could do a better job than Arteta at Arsenal in my view. Of course, they may win the league this season. They may win the Champions League, who knows?

“But even if they don’t, are they really going to replace him? I think it’s unlikely.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal have opened talks with multiple star players in recent weeks as they look to keep Arteta’s squad together.
