Stefan Borson: Chelsea have made ‘surprising’ Raheem Sterling transfer decision – ‘He’s got to go’
Raheem Sterling is yet to seal a move away from Chelsea after being frozen out at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling, who turned 31 last month, hasn’t played for the Blues since May 2024, having yet to make an appearance this season after spending last season on loan at Arsenal.
Sterling and Axel Disasi have been training away from the Chelsea squad after former manager Enzo Maresca decided they weren’t in his plans.
However, Liam Rosenior is set to hold talks with Sterling and Disasi about their futures following his appointment at Stamford Bridge.

Could Liam Rosenior reintegrate Raheem Sterling at Chelsea?
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he doesn’t understand why a move wasn’t lined up for Sterling on 1 January.
Chelsea have struggled to sell Sterling over the past two windows due to his £325,000-a-week wages.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I don’t see how you can reintegrate them at this stage. But I can’t believe that Sterling is still there in particular at this point in January.
“I don’t understand why they weren’t working very hard throughout the autumn to make sure that on 1 January he was moving.
“It just shows there’s not a huge demand out there.”

There was previously speculation Chelsea could pay Sterling to terminate his deal at Stamford Bridge, with his contract running until June 2027.
How Chelsea could structure Sterling transfer deal
West Ham have been linked with a move to sign Sterling as they look to boost their survival hopes, but a deal is so far yet to materialise.
“I’m a little bit surprised that neither Fulham nor West Ham have taken the plunge, but there’s a negotiation,” said Borson.
“I’m surprised Chelsea haven’t just said, ‘You can just take the guy. You pay £100k, and we’ll pay the rest a week’. That’s what I would do. I mean, he’s just got to go.

“He’s a very expensive liability now to have around. I did think they’d make him an offer on a free transfer. They should have done that in September.”
Chelsea have until the window closes on 2 February to agree a deal for Sterling if Rosenior decides against reintegrating him and Disasi over the coming weeks.
