Stefan Borson drops ‘big’ Brentford verdict that fans will not want to hear

Brentford would face a big challenge if they were to qualify for the Europa Conference League this season due to their current squad size.

This is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Bees might not find their experience in the competition all that useful.

Brentford’s form under Keith Andrews this season has seen them well in the race for Europe, with the London club currently seventh in the Premier League.

However, this could pose all sorts of challenges for the Bees if they reach the Europa Conference League.

Stefan Borson: Europa Conference League won’t be particularly useful for Brentford

Going into the second half of the season, Brentford are in an excellent position to qualify for a European competition for the first time this season.

England are likely to be awarded an additional Champions League spot this season, meaning that an eighth-place finish will see Europa Conference League qualification, depending on the winner of the FA Cup.

As a result, until the winner of the FA Cup is decided, Brentford are currently on course to qualify for the Europa Conference League.

However, this is something that could prove to be a detriment to the Bees.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I don’t think the Europa Conference League is something that’s particularly useful for Brentford.

“I mean, they probably want to have that experience, but it’s a big challenge for them next season with the size of the squad if they had it.

“So there’s that big dilemma, but obviously they’re also close enough to be knocking on the door of Champions League and Europa League, as with Everton and Bournemouth.”

How many players have Brentford used in the Premier League this season?

So far this campaign, Brentford have used the second-least amount of players in the Premier League at 23, with only Everton using fewer at 22.

The Conference League has shown this season that it can still cause a challenge for English clubs, with Crystal Palace failing to reach the top eight in the league phase.

Therefore, unless Andrews plans on playing his first team in both competitions, Brentford will need reinforcements to meet these demands.

However, it remains to be seen if the Bees are able to reach Europe this season, with plenty of matches still to be played.
