Stefan Borson drops verdict after Newcastle submit Yoane Wissa compensation claim
Newcastle United fans are yet to see Yoane Wissa in action after he’s been sidelined through injury for the past few weeks.
Newcastle signed Wissa from Brentford for £55million on transfer deadline day, bringing to an end his summer-long saga over whether he would join Eddie Howe’s side.
Wissa suffered a serious knee injury for DR Congo against Senegal on 9 September, ruling the 29-year-old out for several weeks.
Newcastle have applied for compensation following Wissa’s injury as part of Fifa’s Club Protection Programme (CPP).
The CPP is an insurance scheme that covers clubs whose players are injured representing their country and are then unavailable for more than 28 consecutive days, meaning the striker’s wages will be covered from October 7 until he eventually makes his Newcastle debut.

Newcastle hit by new Yoane Wissa blow after injury update
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the compensation Newcastle receive won’t be material.
Howe has now revealed Wissa is set for a further spell on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Wissa compensation, Borson said: “It’s not very much actually. I can’t remember the exact number, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s not material.
“I think he’s just announced that it’s an extended period out actually, so he’s going to be out longer than expected. They bought a player who is 29, and you’re going to lose a big chunk of really a very important year for him in arriving, so the compensation is not going to really satisfy them in that context.
“There’s nothing that they can do, ultimately. I mean, players get injured on international duty all the time, but the amount of compensation is nominal. It is not designed to compensate for a player of that kind of value being out of action for a significant amount of time.”

Wissa has already missed seven games since joining Newcastle, while he didn’t make a single appearance for Brentford before making the move to St James’ Park.
Nick Woltemade impresses after agreeing Newcastle deal
Newcastle also signed Nick Woltemade in the summer transfer window to replace Alexander Isak following his move to Liverpool.
The Germany international set Howe’s side back around £69m after joining from Stuttgart.
Woltemade scored from the penalty spot as Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the Premier League in their latest outing on Sunday (5 October).
The 23-year-old has now registered four goals in his opening seven games since making the move to Tyneside.
