Stefan Borson drops verdict on Nottingham Forest appointing Marco Silva

Nottingham Forest are deciding whether or not to stick with Ange Postecoglou following his poor start to life at the City Ground.

Postecoglou replaced Nuno Espirito Santo just three games into the season in a bid to turn around Forest‘s fortunes, but he has failed to win any of his first seven games.

Forest fans have called for Postecoglou’s sack, with large sections of the crowd singing “sacked in the morning” during their defeat to Midtjylland earlier this month.

Football Insider revealed on 6 October Postecoglou will be given time by Forest’s hierarchy, who are hopeful he can turn things around.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Forest could soon have no choice over sacking Postecoglou following their “terrible” results since he joined the club.

Ange Postecoglou situation ‘coming to a head’ at Nottingham Forest

Marco Silva has been linked with Forest following his work at Fulham in recent years.

Silva, who is out of contract at the end of this season, is understood to have a release clause worth around £8million.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Well, you’ve got a choice, right? I mean, it’s like Sir Jim Ratcliffe saying that Amorim needs three years.

“The reality is if the results are not there, then he’s not going to get his time, and the situation with Postecoglou is going to come to a head pretty quickly.

“The results are terrible obviously, and if they don’t improve then I would think Forest are going to take a view that they’ve just got to pay the money and move on.

“I very much doubt £8m in the grand scheme of football is going to be the difference between them saying ‘Well, let’s just stick with Ange’.”

Football Insider exclusively revealed in August Forest considered Silva to replace Nuno before appointing Postecoglou.

Nottingham Forest prepared to pay Marco Silva compensation

Silva led Fulham to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season, while they currently sit in 14th spot.

Borson said: “I think any of these managers that are in work these days, the price is about £8-10m. I mean, that’s just the way it works these days. That is the compensation, and so it should be.

“It’s been very odd that you would be able to pick managers out of other clubs for less than that sort of money when we know how much footballers cost. Given the importance of managers, it doesn’t surprise me at all that those are the sorts of compensation payments that are built into contracts now.

“But I don’t see it as being a block for Nottingham Forest. I think if they get to the point of having decided that Ange can’t continue because he can’t win matches and because potentially the dressing room is not with him, then they’re going to have no choice.”

Meanwhile, Forest have been told Sean Dyche would be the “perfect” appointment if they decide to move on from Postecoglou.
