Stefan Borson: Man City favourite ‘high on the list’ to replace Pep Guardiola at Man City
Pep Guardiola is looking to win trophies again at Manchester City this season as questions continue around his future.
Man City were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle United on Saturday (22 November), seeing them drop to third in the Premier League table and seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
There have been suggestions Guardiola could leave Man City at the end of this season, which is his 10th in charge at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola agreed a contract extension at Man City in November 2024, with his deal expiring in June 2027.
It is believed Vincent Kompany is on the list of potential replacements for Guardiola, having previously spent 11 years at the Etihad Stadium as a player.

Man City to make next manager decision after Pep Guardiola announcement
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Kompany is always going to be “high on the list” of people there are rumours about regarding the manager’s job at the Etihad.
However, the Belgian recently extended his contract until 2029 with Bayern Munich, who he led to the Bundesliga title last season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Nobody would have foreseen Pep doing more than half his managerial career at City, so who knows in terms of who the next manager is.
“I think because it changes so quickly with managers in terms of being flavour of the month being rated as managers, and having collapses in form of some teams, I think you can only assess that when you’ve got an idea of whether somebody’s leaving.”

Guardiola joined Man City in 2016 and has since gone on to claim 18 trophies.
Man City’s next manager plans could change ‘all of a sudden’
Borson insisted any of the potential candidates to replace Guardiola could soon suffer a dip in results at their current clubs.
“I think clearly someone like Vincent Kompany is always going to be high on the list of people that there’s going to be rumours about, but he’s just signed a contract to 2029,” said Borson.
“Beyond that, I think it’s really hard to say who City go for. There are lots of highly-rated managers. You just don’t know.

“We’ve seen lots of managers who’ve been going really well and then all of a sudden, three months later, they’ve been fired.”
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 14 November Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi is being considered by Man City’s hierarchy if Guardiola decides to leave the Etihad.
