Stefan Borson: Marc Guehi is making ‘sacrifice’ to finalise Man City deal

Manchester City have stepped up their bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.

Guehi can leave Palace on a free transfer when his contract expires at Selhurst Park on 30 June.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side are pushing to sign the England international before the transfer window closes on 2 February.

It was widely reported on Friday (16 January) the deal is moving closer after Man City have presented a contract proposal to Guehi

It has been revealed the 25-year-old is seeking a contract worth around £200,000 a week to move in the January window.

How much Marc Guehi will earn at Man City revealed

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Guehi would be sacrificing money to join a new club now compared to if he left Palace as a free agent in the summer.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move to sign Guehi, but it appears Guardiola’s side are leading the race for his signature.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “My perception is if he goes now, then he probably does sacrifice a little bit of cash in the overall equation of the deal.

“He’s still got a big wage. It’s a bit more than £200k a week, by the way. Given the situation with the contract, I think it’ll be more than £200k, especially all in. I think all in, you can probably add another 50 per cent on top of that.

“The basic might be £250k perhaps, but he’s going to make a lot of money from the move, given the situation, given his age, given the contract situation and everything else, so we’ll just have to see.”

Why Man City have stepped up bid to sign Guehi

The interest in Guehi has ramped up after Man City have been hit hard with injuries in recent weeks.

Josko Gvardiol is set to miss several months after suffering a fracture to his leg in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea on 4 January, while Ruben Dias is out for the next few weeks after picking up a hamstring injury in the same game.

There has been speculation around whether Man City could agree a swap deal for Guehi that would involve Nathan Ake making the move to Selhurst Park.

However, it remains unclear whether Ake would be keen on joining Palace at this stage of the season.
