Stefan Borson: Pep Guardiola has made ‘clear’ decision about quitting Man City after Enzo Maresca twist
Pep Guardiola has faced questions about his Manchester City future once again following Enzo Maresca’s departure at Chelsea.
There have been suggestions Guardiola could leave Man City at the end of this season, which is his 10th in charge at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola is expected to have a say in his replacement when he eventually decides to bring his reign in Manchester to an end.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on 18 December Maresca is high on Man City’s list of candidates to replace Guardiola.
The Italian boss is now available after his departure from Chelsea was confirmed last week.

Could Enzo Maresca join Man City?
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Guardiola has made it clear he will not be leaving the Etihad.
Guardiola agreed a contract extension at Man City in November 2024, with his deal expiring in June 2027.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Maresca situation, Borson said: “I do think with these sorts of situations, you do have to try and read between the lines and try and understand what might have gone on.
“The fact that he may have been talking to an intermediary about what might happen at City.
“I think Pep seems to be pretty clear he’s not leaving.”

Maresca previously worked as Man City Under-21s coach and as Guardiola’s assistant, providing Etihad chiefs with a clear understanding of his capabilities.
How Maresca talks could have been leaked to the media
Borson insisted it’s difficult to know what’s gone on behind the scenes between Man City and Maresca.
“City kind of planning for life after Pep, I think is kind of sensible, but it seems a bit specific to be saying to Maresca, ‘Will you be available if we need to move in the summer?’,” said Borson.
“It’s very hard to know the exact truth. Clearly, there was an interest in briefing that out to people.

“That could have come either from Chelsea or from Maresca’s team at the time, or maybe both. Maybe both confirmed it, which is why David Ornstein originally wrote the story because it was double sourced from both parties.”
Man City currently sit second in the Premier League table as they look to close the gap on leaders Arsenal.
