Stefan Borson ‘surprised’ about Pep Guardiola with Man City deal ‘99% done’
Pep Guardiola has definitely spoken to Brazil about becoming their new manager if he decides to leave Manchester City.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it’s surprising there hasn’t been an update on the Catalan’s future during the ongoing international break.
The Athletic reported on 8 November the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is making a major play to bring Guardiola on board after calling him several times this year.
The CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues has since denied contacting the 53-year-old about the role, with his contract with Man City set to expire in June 2025.
Guardiola is set to lose a major ally at the Etihad Stadium in sporting director Txiki Begiristain, who has confirmed his exit at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
However, Football Insider revealed last week that Guardiola is edging closer to agreeing a one-year Man City contract extension, with a deal believed to be “99 per cent done” following new talks.
Brazil are an option for Pep Guardiola after Man City exit news
Borson believes Brazil are one of Guardiola’s options should he decide to leave Man City.
He told Football Insider: “We know he has had conversations with them before.
“I think they are one of the options should he end up leaving City.
“Clearly, being out of contract will make things easier in that there will be no compensation to pay, so it would just be a negotiation between him and Brazil.
“I think it’s slightly surprising that we haven’t heard anything so far during this international break.
“This would be the time when you would expect Guardiola if he was going to stay at City, I think this would be the week that you would expect it to happen.

“We will have to see, but he definitely has spoken to Brazil, so we know that it is a possible option after City.
“The question is whether it will be now or at some other point in the future, but I definitely think the story is true.”
