Stefan Borson: This is how much Aston Villa could accept for Morgan Rogers after confirmed news

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has attracted interest from multiple top clubs in recent months.

The England international joined Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for an initial £8million, with the deal potentially rising to £15m in add-ons.

Chelsea have been long-term admirers of Rogers and are believed to still be interested in signing the 23-year-old.

However, Rogers has now agreed a new contract with Villa, extending his deal until 2031.

Football Insider revealed on 9 November Rogers is set to earn £120,000 a week after penning his new deal at Villa Park.

Morgan Rogers could have £120m Aston Villa release clause

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider any release clause in Rogers’s contract would likely be worth £120-125m.

Rogers was criticised for a poor run of form earlier in the season, but his performances for Unai Emery’s side have improved in recent weeks.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I mean, if there are release clauses, I think you would be looking at something like £120-125m, so it’s kind of basically irrelevant anyway because nobody’s going to pay it.

“I suspect he’s just a player that’s signed up and if somebody comes along with a £100m offer at some point and Villa need the money, then you’ve got a potential deal.

“Unless his form drops and they sell him for less than that kind of figure you’d think. That’s the sort of going rate for a player his age and how he’s rated in the game right now.”

Rogers has registered one goal and three assists in his opening 16 games of this season.

Aston Villa hatch plan to sign top-class striker

Villa have struggled in front of goal this season, having scored 13 times in the Premier League.

Ollie Watkins has failed to live up to his form of previous campaigns, with the 29-year-old registering just one goal in all competitions.

Recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Villa are planning to sign a top-class striker in the January transfer window.

However, Emery’s side have faced issues complying with the profit and sustainability rules (PSR), which could impact their spending power again in January.
