Stephen Warnock has just issued fresh Marc Guehi ‘concern’ amid ‘magnificent’ praise

Marc Guehi’s stock for club and country continues to rise, with Stephen Warnock acknowledging his progression.

Guehi was close to signing for Liverpool before a deal collapsed on transfer deadline day, and since then, the 25-year-old has shown incredible professionalism.

The England international helped inspire Crystal Palace’s win over Liverpool, showcasing why he’s one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

With his contract expiring next summer, Football Insider understands that as many as six clubs want to sign Guehi as it appears only a matter of when, rather than if, he leaves Selhurst Park.

Stephen Warnock issues his ‘concern’ for Marc Guehi

Guehi was selected by Thomas Tuchel during England’s clash against Wales on Thursday night, with the former Chelsea man cementing his place in the German’s back four.

Due to his qualities as a ball-playing defender, former left-back Stephen Warnock hopes that he can still complete his move to Liverpool in January or next summer, labelling him a ‘magnificent’ player.

“Marc Guehi is a magnificent player,” Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live. “My concern for him is I hope he still gets that move to Liverpool. He deserves to play on the bigger stage, which is Champions League football. He has the ability to play at a club like Liverpool.”

As it stands, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are interested in Guehi, presenting a huge challenge to Liverpool’s chances of signing him.

However, with Arne Slot’s lack of defensive options, the Crystal Palace star is the perfect candidate to play alongside Van Dijk.

How Guehi performed vs Wales

England secured a 3-0 victory over Wales to make it eight successive wins against tonight’s opponents, as Guehi lined up alongside John Stones.

Guehi was near faultless in possession, completing all but one of his passes, while providing two assists for his teammates.

Marc Guehi stats vs Wales
90 minutes played
94 touches
97/98 passes completed (99%)
2 assists
0 ground duels won
0 aerial duels won

The Palace defender, meanwhile, won zero of his contested ground and aerial duels, but considering how dominant they were, that was hardly surprising.

Nonetheless, it was another impressive performance from Guehi, who is ready to compete on every big stage in world football.
