Stephen Warnock shares what he ‘loves’ about England manager Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel is making a positive impression as England manager following another victory for the Three Lions against Wales.

England beat Wales 3-0 in a friendly with Ollie Watkins starting and scoring for the unavailable Harry Kane.

Morgan Rogers and Bukayo Saka also got the scoresheet as England warmed up in perfect style for their World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

For the first time in 33 years, England’s line-up against Wales didn’t feature Man United, Liverpool or Chelsea players, but it didn’t matter for Tuchel who earned a decisive victory.

Stephen Warnock ‘loves’ one thing about Thomas Tuchel

Speaking to BBC Sport, [9 October], Stephen Warnock praised Tuchel for keeping standards high in the squad even for a friendly fixture.

“I love watching Thomas Tuchel’s body language on the touchline,” Warnock said.

When things break down he gets so angry with the way his team are playing. Standards – that’s why he has been brought in.”

Tuchel has won six of his seven fixtures as England manager, with his only defeat coming in a friendly against Senegal.

England break 38-year record vs Wales

As per Opta Joe, on X [9 November], England scored three goals in the opening 20 minutes of a game for the first time since 1987.

The Three Lions managed to keep a clean sheet, limiting Wales to just two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes, but their performance varied between the first and second half.

Despite just 3% less possession, England’s attacking display was less fruitful in the second period, and Tuchel needs to ensure the intensity doesn’t drop.

Tuchel was more animated in the second half, and is clearly trying to drive standards to ensure England are in the best mental place to compete for the World Cup next summer.
