Steve Cooper sack: Keith Wyness lifts lid on Leicester City ‘breakdown’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed it is “too early” in the season for Leicester City’s players to be united against manager Steve Cooper.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed it will be obvious to the Foxes board when there is a “breakdown” behind the scenes at the King Power Stadium.

Football Insider revealed last week (24 September) that Leicester players are unconvinced by Cooper’s methods amid dressing room mutiny fears.

Club directors are believed to be increasingly aware that the Welshman is struggling to convince a sceptical dressing room of his methods and playing style.

Leicester lost 4-2 against Arsenal on Saturday (28 September) and are now without a win in their first six Premier League games.

‘Too early’ for sack decision on Leicester boss Cooper, says Wyness

Wyness claimed Foxes boss Cooper will have a problem if “two or three key players” turn on him in the coming weeks.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The board level will always be looking to the players to see what their reaction is.

“Very rarely will they actually go to the players, but you know it from the staff you speak to – it becomes pretty clear.

“But you’ve got to let the manager get on, you can’t just give in whenever the players are upset.

“You have to back the manager.

“But it does become apparent when there is a breakdown, particularly if there are two or three key players you rely on.

“If they are united against the manager, it becomes a problem – but I think we’re too early in the season to see how that could be shaping up.

“I hope it isn’t, for the manager’s sake.”
