Steve Hitchen: Everton tipped to complete ‘shrewd signing’ after source’s reveal – expert
Alex McLeish has insisted Steve Hitchen “could be a shrewd signing” for Everton after being offered the director of football post at Goodison Park.
The former Rangers manage, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 45-year-old has the experience and know-how required to assist Frank Lampard.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (10 February), Everton have offered Hitchen the vacant director of football role after being given the green light by owner Farhad Moshiri.

An Everton source told this site the former Tottenham chief was actually “unimpressive” during his interview this week.
However, Moshiri has pushed for his appointment and negotiations are now taking place over a contract and salary package.
McLeish insisted, on paper, it looks a good hire for the Toffees.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “On paper, it’s all good. Steve’s got a good name.
“It’s not as if they’re bringing in a young guy who doesn’t know the elements of the Premier League. Steve has good experience.
“Hitchen could be a very shrewd, shrewd signing in the backroom team. Let’s face it, manager’s don’t get out and about.
“People used to be able to phone a manager and say: ‘Have you seen this player playing there?’ and the manager would say: ‘I’ll go and see him.’
“These guys do all that, they do those hard hours for you. Their knowledge and analytic methods of the modern world are much more prevalent these days.”
Hitchen left his post as Tottenham’s technical performance director last week (2 February).
Everton have been without a sporting director since Marcel Brands’ exit in December.
