Steven Naismith: Ranger senior man is in very difficult situation

Former Rangers striker Steven Naismith feels sorry for the difficult job currently facing interim Gers manager Graeme Murty at the moment.

Senior man Murty has been in charge of the Gers since the sacking of Pedro Caixinha in October, and has been given the job at Ibrox until the end of year.

Results have been indifferent so far, with two very impressive wins over Aberdeen being followed by a very poor 3-1 home defeat by St Johnstone.

Naismith, who briefly worked with Murty at Norwich, knows that the interim boss is in a difficult position as the board at Ibrox continue to look for a permanent manager after being turned down by Derek McInnes.

“It’s hard for Murts. He was at Norwich before so I’ve had some dealings with him,” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“He is a great coach. It’s a very difficult situation for him.

“He’s done well in terms of dealing with it all and it’s hard for everyone.”

Naismith was at the Gers between 2007 and 2012 after signing from Kilmarnock, winning six trophies in that time including three league titles but controversially left the club after their liquidation in 2012.

Rangers are currently in third place in the league, three points behind Aberdeen and five points behind leaders Celtic, who have a game in hand.

Their next match is a trip to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock, before a home match against Motherwell and the last match before the winter break in January, a Glasgow derby at Celtic Park, a game which could prove to be Graeme Murty’s last in charge of Rangers.
