‘Strange’ – Martin O’Neill baffled by what Nottingham Forest fans did vs Midtjylland

Ange Postecoglou suffered yet another setback as Nottingham Forest went six games without a victory against Midtjylland.

Referee Willy Delajod made a few questionable decisions during the clash at the City Ground on Thursday, 2 October, as the Reds lost 3-2 in an embarrassing Europa League defeat.

Supporters were also frustrated as Forest lost 1-0 to newly promoted Sunderland at the weekend, and the early signs in his tenure are all pointing towards an early demise for the former Tottenham figure.

In fact, Forest supporters were calling for Postecoglou to be “sacked in the morning”, having only replaced Nuno Espirito Santo last month, with the majority of match-going fans completely fed up.

Martin O’Neill confused by the treatment of Ange Postecoglou

Speaking on TNT Sports (2 October), O’Neill was taken aback by the crowd, saying: “It is the name of the game and you have got to win. Everything else follows.

“It feels strange, but the crowd were really against him in many aspects,” and the Reds are now without victory in six games under the Australian’s leadership.

Postecoglou has already responded to the criticism, saying that the supporters are entitled to their opinion, and he remained calm while being interviewed, much to the surprise of everyone.

Nottingham Forest’s injury worries rub salt into the wounds

Douglas Luiz picked up an injury against Real Betis, joining Ola Aina and Oleksandr Zinchenko on the treatment table before heading back into Europe this week.

Now, Postecoglou has Murillo‘s fitness to worry about, having limped off at the City Ground after just 28 minutes, also staying on the pitch for much longer than he should have done.

The 60-year-old may not have time to welcome those players back from injury, however, with the fanbase out for blood after an embarrassing return to Europe for the first time in 30 years.

Evangelos Marinakis‘ decision to back Edu and part ways with Nuno appears to have completely backfired, and the former manager can rub even more salt in the wounds by being successful at West Ham.
