Rangers reported hunt to sign clinical striker will split fans, but is exactly what Ibrox needs
COMMENT
Rangers’ reported swoop for Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings is sure to split the Ibrox support but it’s a signing which would definitely improve the Gers.
According to the Sunday Post, Rangers are set to swoop for the £1million striker as Graeme Murty continues to improve the squad he inherited from Pedro Caixinha in October.
Cummings only left Scottish football over the summer but a move to Ibrox would surely appeal to the striker who has struggled for a regular first-team place at the City Ground.
Some of Cummings’ off-field antics won’t sit well with many Rangers fans but if the former Hibs striker can produce the goods on the pitch there will be a bit more freedom for the striker off the pitch.
With Alfredo Morelos the only Rangers forward consistently scoring goals, Murty needs to bring in someone who can push the Colombian on and give him some real competition for a starting place.
Cummings may want to stay and fight for his place at Forest but, after Mark Warburton’s unsurprising sacking, the decision could now be taken out of his hands by new boss Aitor Karanka.
Hibernian’s former clinical striker has scored 69 times in 150 appearances in Scottish football and if he could bring that sort of prolific goal-scoring form to Ibrox he would quickly win over any doubters.
