Tottenham remain on course to complete the signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea City but the deal is set to go down to the wire on deadline day.
Football Insider broke the news early this afternoon that Spurs had secured a breakthrough in their pursuit of the 22-year-old centre-back.
It also emerged Swansea were scrambling to sign Wolves defender Ryan Bennett on a permanent deal to replace Rodon in the heart of their back line.
Now, a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bennett, 30, has arrived at the Welsh club to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of a move.
That is a strong signal that Swansea are confident that Rodon will be a Tottenham player by this evening.
Bennett, 30, has attracted the interest of a number of clubs during this summer’s transfer window and Football Insider revealed earlier today that Bennett has turned down a loan offer from Sheffield Wednesday.
However, he is keen on a permanent move to Swansea and a key role in a side fighting for promotion.
The two transfers are likely to be dependent upon one another, as it is difficult to see the Swans letting Rodon go without now finalising the capture of Bennett.
It is expected that Tottenham will sign the Wales international in a straight-cash deal after discussing multiple formulas in recent days.
Spurs have offered fringe stars to sweeten the transfer and get close to Swansea’s £15m valuation of their 6ft 3in defender.
But Swansea have knocked back a number of suggestions including USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers.
