‘Stunning’: The Casemiro stats from Man United’s win vs Everton that have left experts shocked

Casemiro put in a superb performance on Monday as Man United narrowly emerged with the three points at Everton.

Substitute Benjamin Sesko found the game’s only goal in the second half, after showing great pace to support Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils had suffered a slight dip when they were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham earlier this month.

A 13-day break from action gave Michael Carrick plenty of time to prepare his team to win a fifth game from his six in charge, though, and they have left themselves in a strong position.

Man United are now three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool in fourth, and only three points behind Aston Villa.

Casemiro’s staggering stat line vs Everton

Man United announced in January that Casemiro would leave the club this summer at the end of his contract.

The 34-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in 2022, joining in a deal worth around £70million from Real Madrid.

He struggled to adapt to the Premier League, however, and was famously told by Jamie Carragher in 2024 to “leave the football before the football leaves you”.

The pundit has backed down on that comment this season, and it is easy to see why. Casemiro has constantly been a bright spot in the Man United team, and despite his age, always seems to be available.

Against Everton, he was brilliant once again, and absolutely key to a big win for the Red Devils.

The Brazilian created two chances and completed a dribble, but it was his defensive work that really stood out.

Casemiro won four tackles, made a block, made two clearances and completed eight recoveries on the night. He also won 10 duels and was fouled twice.

Man United spent several years wondering how they would get rid of the midfielder, but they will now be thinking about how they plan to replace such a key presence this summer.

What Michael Carrick has said about Casemiro

Casemiro has been linked with early rumours of a move to the MLS, while others suggest that he could still return to La Liga or play in Serie A.

Speaking about him before Monday’s match, Carrick said: “I’ve got to say, Case has been fantastic since I came, really, on and off the pitch, and experience is a great thing if you use it in the right way.”

“Yeah, well, listen, it’s an important position, I think,” he added when quizzed on Man United’s plans to replace Casemiro.

“Not being biased, obviously, as being a midfielder, but I think it is an important position to try and tie everything together.

“You’re connected to the whole team, and that’s sometimes emotionally, a little bit mentally, and showing that composure and understanding of the game a little bit.

“And Case’s has had a big influence within the group on that. So, something we’re fully aware of moving forward, for sure.”
