Sunderland star reacts as Newcastle finalise agreement
Newcastle United announced on Monday that Sven Botman has signed a new contract, extending his stay at the Magpies until 2030.
Football Insider had previously reported that Newcastle were in talks over a long-term deal for Botman, and now these ambitions have been released.
This is despite Botman being poor for Newcastle in many games this season, most recently in their penalty victory over Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
Nevertheless, he is clearly still a part of Eddie Howe’s plans as the Magpies eye European qualification again this season.
Many people were quick to react to the news, including Sunderland’s Reinildo.

Reinildo reacts as Sven Botman signs new Newcastle deal
Newcastle and Sunderland have long held a fierce rivalry.
The Black Cats’ return to the Premier League has only increased the hatred between the two clubs, with Sunderland coming out 1-0 victors in the Tyne-Wear derby back in December.
However, not all of the players seemingly despise one another.
Reinildo was previously Botman’s teammate at Lille as they went on to win a shock Ligue 1 title in the 2020-21 campaign.
Now, upon Newcastle announcing the deal on their Instagram, the Sunderland star reacted to the news with a like to the post.
What are Newcastle’s current January transfer window plans?
Football Insider revealed back in November that Newcastle wanted a new left-back, right-back, central midfielder and potentially a striker in January to bolster their squad.
However, as the midway point of the window approaches, the Magpies are yet to bring in a single player.
As it stands, departures look more likely at St James’ Park, with Joe Willock potentially pushing for a move this month.
- Newcastle are currently sixth in the Premier League
- The Magpies are three points off fourth place as they aim for Champions League qualification
- As a result, potential transfers may be needed to complete this objective
With Newcastle now just three points off fourth spot, additions will be needed if they are to once again qualify for the Champions League.
However, there is still plenty of time for the Magpies to secure potential signings as Howe looks to finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
