Sunderland willing to accept Eliezer Mayenda offer as West Ham plan revealed

Sunderland will consider selling striker Eliezer Mayenda this summer amid fresh interest from West Ham United, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old has been a long-term target for the Hammers in recent years, but is now attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.

However, it is likely to be “difficult” for the East Londoners to win the race for him this summer, with sources indicating that the Spain U21 international will have chances to stay at the top level in Europe rather than drop into the Championship.

Mayenda is unhappy with the level of gametime that he has received at Sunderland, having started just eight league games this term, and is keen on the idea of a move away as a result.

West Ham want to add quality to their squad, and still view the starlet as an exciting talent, but they will have to work hard to persuade him to join.

Eliezer Mayenda boasts excellent Championship record

West Ham are looking to re-group this summer, as they prepare to mount a push to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking next term.

Several key departures are expected at the London Stadium, but the recruitment team also have their eyes on several options that could come in and help to refresh their squad.

Mayenda is firmly among those options, with the Hammers impressed by the form that he showed the last time he was in the Championship.

The forward notched 10 goals and five assists for the Black Cats during their promotion campaign back in 2024-25, and even found the back of the net in their play-off final victory over Sheffield United.

He proved that he can be a hugely effective player in the second tier, even if he perhaps didn’t make the impact he would have hoped for in the Premier League in 2025-26.

West Ham remain strong admirers of Mayenda heading into the window, but they will need several cards to fall into place for them if they are to secure his services.

West Ham at serious risk of losing their own striker

Former Hammers scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last weekend that Everton are lining up a move for Taty Castellanos this summer, after being impressed with his performances in recent months.

The ex-recruitment man suggested that Castellanos’ agents have already been trying to drum up interest in their client, amid a feeling that he has proven he is good enough to earn another Premier League move.

Everton have had scouts watching the Argentine of late, and West Ham are now at serious risk of losing him as a result of their relegation.

That story looks set to be repeated with several players in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad this summer, as it is almost certain that a rebuild will be needed at the London Stadium.
