Supercomputer hands Premier League club massive boost in Champions League qualification chances after recent developments

Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and even Brentford will hope a strong second half of the season can see them qualify for the Champions League.

It has been a month of change in the Premier League, and it was kicked off when Chelsea parted ways with Enzo Maresca.

The Blues have since appointed Liam Rosenior, who has guided his team to three wins from their opening four games across all competitions.

And there was more just days later, when Man United sacked Ruben Amorim after his post-match press conference at Leeds United.

Man United have appointed Michael Carrick on an interim basis until the end of the season, when they will appoint a permanent successor.

Chelsea and Man United receive Champions League boosts

Consistency has been hard to come by for the Premier League clubs chasing the top four this season.

Just four points separate fourth-placed Liverpool and 10th-placed Everton, with European qualification still very much up for grabs.

Arsenal, Man City and Aston Villa have been in a mini-league of their own this season, and Opta‘s supercomputer has allocated over a 90 per cent chance for each of them to finish in the top four this season.

But the clubs below them are still set to battle it out for the final Champions League qualification spot.

The supercomputer has handed Liverpool the strongest chance at 53.23 per cent, but there have been strong boosts for the clubs below them in recent days.

Chelsea had just a 13.73 per cent chance of making the top four after their defeat to Fulham earlier this month, but that chance has now been boosted to 24.09 amid Rosenior’s efforts to stabilise.

Premier League 2025-26Chances of Champions League qualification
Liverpool53.23%
Chelsea24.09%
Man United10.59%
Newcastle United10.09%
Brentford 7.09%
Brighton3.35%

And there has been a similar effect at Man United, who have seen their chances grow to 10.59 per cent in the aftermath of Saturday’s victory over Man City.

The Premier League could ultimately have five Champions League places come the end of the season, depending on UEFA’s coefficients.

Who are the favourites for Europa League qualification?

The supercomputer has predicted that it will be two of Liverpool, Chelsea or Man United to finish fifth and sixth and qualify for the Europa League.

Chelsea are the favourites to do that, and they have been handed a 20.80 per cent chance.

They are followed by Liverpool at 18.44, and Man United at 13.19, while outsiders Newcastle and Brentford have been handed 12.74 per cent and 9.85 per cent chances respectively.

All five clubs will realistically be dreaming of the Champions League, however, which arrives with a huge financial boost.
